Hunnewell Cement presented project on using the waste tires as alternative fuel at Kaspi cement plant. According to Director General of the company, David Jughashvili, this alternative technology has been used in almost all the countries of Europe, it\u2019s been successfully utilized in HeidelbergCement\u2019s as well as other companies\u2019 cement plants.
\u201cAs you know, currently the Kaspi cement plant uses coal and natural gas as fuel; after the implementation of this project, coal will be partially replaced with alternative fuel such as waste tires (maximum 13,400 metric tons per year). It should be noted that when using the maximum amounts of this type of fuel, the other type of alternative fuel will not be utilized; however, it will be possible to proportionally distribute their concurrent use so that the total amount does not exceed 12% in the fuel mix.
This project will result in many positive outcomes and in the long run it will have a positive impact on environment \u2013 the mostly imported and expensive fuel (coal) will be replaced, carbon monoxide emissions will decrease and less waste will end up in environment. Co-incineration with energy recovery is currently a state-of-the-art technology used in the world; under this project, new jobs will be created both inside the plant as well as in the area of waste tire collection; the plant\u2019s competitiveness and sustainability will increase etc.\u201d \u2013 David Jughashvili says.
It should be pointed out that back in 2018, during the designing and construction phase of the Kaspi cement plant, the possibility of utilizing alternative fuels was taken into consideration and kiln\u2019s chamber was designed with waste tire feed line in mind. It should also be noted that feeding whole tires to kiln is considered to be the best way of tire processing and this technology is used in all the developed countries. During that process, environmental indicators are improved while waste is transformed into energy and utilized.
System of co-incineration of waste tires includes a waste tire storage with water cleaning system as well as systems for transporting, dosing and feeding the waste tires to the kiln.
The project budget is 5.8 million GEL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
